The Nov-Dec 2010 period contradicts your correlation between stock consolidation and the rise in the 14-day MA of the ATR.
There’s a difference between moving up and surging. The time period you refer to had the ATR slowly grinding up…much different than the vertical moves I highlight.
Dude you are totally ignoring the late August and late November periods where the market moved sideways while volatility climbed–only to see the market rip higher.
See my comment above. It’s perfectly fine for the ATR to slowly move up (it’s not going to go straight down). It’s the near vertical move that gets my attention.
thank you jason…..great insight as always…..i have had a short side ETF position for a few weeks………so i am happy to hear any sorta confirmation of my thinking….but as you frequently say..mkt has a mind of it’s own….so we’ll see what this week brings……
