Going back to the middle of 2014, the dollar has been very strong. This increases the price of our exports and therefore hurts multi-national corporations that sell all over the world. So far it hasn’t hurt too much, but odds favor the dollar remaining at a high level or breaking out and continuing its uptrend. Japan, China and many other countries are devaluing their currency to help boost exports, so the US is stuck with a strong currency.
If the dollar breaks out and legs up, it’ll be harder for stocks to do the same.
